The Grand River bayous in and near Spring Lake and Grand Haven hold some of the best early season largemouth bass and northern pike action in west Michigan.

The marshy outlets of Grand River bayous contain stumps, lily pads, slow currents and lush vegetation. Perfect habiat for monster fish. The lower Grand, has series of deep water holes, which are sleeper spots for largemouth bass, pike and walleye that a lot of anglers miss.

The most productive bayous in the Spring Lake system are Pottawattomie, Sterns, Bruces and Lloyds.

During the spring, and in the right places, the lower Grand gives the angler a legitimate shot at connecting with 10 to 15 pound northern pike. In addition, there is the occasional monster pike that can push 20 pounds.
