Along with the rising temperatures, the smallmouth action is heating up. We’ve had a few 21’s hit the net so far. The Grand River is in great shape with good stain and we are bringing numbers to net. Here’s the latest from the frontlines.
Any fly that’s bright, articulated and on the larger side will produce. Try mixing white, chartreuse, and yellow into your material. We’re using Scientific Anglers I 2/3 sink line to allow for our flies to hover over wood and rock. Remember, smallmouth will always take the fly when you pause it during the strip.
As far as topwater goes, we have not seen much action on that yet. Water temps are in the mid-60’s on the Grand, which should produce some action but so far hasn’t. The tributaries are the only place where topwater is doing really well.
The upcoming forecast is looking great and we still have openings in May and June. Whether you like spin or fly fishing we have you covered. So book a trip with us today.
