Time To Play The Game

April 21, 2024

The smallmouth game is on and the pre-spawn is going strong.  We’re quickly switching gears from steelhead to running all out smallmouth trips.

The smallmouth are still in their pre-spawn waters.  Try fishing the deeper holes and make sure to get down as close to the bottom as you can.  Ned rigs and jig flies are your still your best bet.

A few of the fish we’re bringing to net are coming on swim flies, paddle tails, spinners and crank baits, which means the water is warm enough for them to now chase.  There’s nothing like seeing a smallmouth come off a seam and inhale your fly or swimbait.

The upcoming forecast is calling for above normal temps and near normal precipitation.  May is setting up nicely for good smallmouth action.  We have guides available almost everyday in May, so pick your day and give us a call to get in on the action.

I have been fishing many, many years. I have hired many guides in many different places. There are a few guides that rise to the top. Tom Werkman is one of those guides. I got onto his Stealthcraft inflatable and spent 8 hours with a man I had never met. You never know. Well, I would like to say that Tom gave me one of the best float trips I have done. Tom is hard working, great conversationalist, easy going and great at giving little tips on technique. If you want a great day on the water, book a trip with Werkman Outfitters.
