Grand River Fishing Reports

Back To Fishable Levels

April 26, 2026

Many of the area rivers have settled down to fishable levels, with the exception of the Grand. With that said, if you float, make sure the river you're on is open. There could still be some log jams that haven't been cleared yet.

Many of the steelhead have spawned and gone back out with the receding waters but you might find a few stragglers. If you still want target them, throw circus peanuts on a full sink line to get the depth needed to effectively fish the faster flows.

Water temps are in the lower sixties, so it's game on for smallmouth and northern pike. Topwater, frog patterns, has seen the most consistent action from smallmouth followed by swimflies, such as Leggy Bois in yellow/white and D & D's. Pike are coming off the spawn and they are looking to feed. Try using the larger streamers such as Yard Sales, Leggy Bois, S2 Sculpins and don't forget your bite guard.

The shop is fully loaded with all the swimflies you need to find success on the water. If you have questions or need the latest river report, either swing on in or give us a call.

My wife and I had a great time on our guided fly fishing tour with Tom at Werkman Outfitters. Tom was super nice and very patient with my wife while teaching her fly casting and fishing techniques. If I return to Michigan again for fly fishing I will definitely book another guide with Tom. Absolutely 5 stars.
