Grand River Fishing Reports

Bugs & Frogs
Let's just get right into it!
TROUT:
We've been on the Muskegon and bug activity is day by day right now. Some days there's more bugs going off than on other days. When its happening, we're seeing Gray Drakes, Sulphurs, Caddis, Mahoganys and small amounts of ISO's. In the evenings, Sulphurs have been spinning out in good numbers in sizes 14, 16 and 18.
Streamer fishing has been slow, with mornings and evenings being the best times to sling. We're using 9' 8wts, with 300 grain sinking lines. Streamers range in size from 2 1/2 to 4 inches. Sluggo's in white and chartreuse and deceiver patterns in white, and olive and white as well as unweighted swimflies have all been producing.
SMALLMOUTH:
Smallmouth is still a grind. You'll need to keep your head in the game and be ready for the opportunities as they present themselves. We've had a lot of fish chasing swimflies, only to turn away at the last second and not take it. Both Leggy Boi's and smaller baitfish patterns have been moving fish. We've taken some fish on topwater but not consistently. As a matter of fact, all the quality fish have come on topwater, with frogs being the pattern of choice such as the Shad Diver and Hathazy's Wedge Head.
Hope to see you on the water!
