Grand River Fishing Reports

Salmon Are On The Move

September 13, 2025

Salmon are on the move in all the area rivers and all the systems are experiencing low water conditions. Under these conditions, you may want to change up your tactics. With the low water, we like to run indicator rigs using 16# leader to a barrel swivel to 1x to your egg. Above the swivel run a shot line of BB / AB.

When fishing salmon, remember to avoid the spawning female and target the pocket water for the males, trout and steelhead.

With the warmer weather coming in, the topwater activity should pick back up. If fishing for trout, remember your dries and terrestrials and for smallmouth, stick with boogle bugs and terrestrials as well.

No mater what your targeting right now, you'll need stealth, both in your approach and in your presentation. If you need help on this or have questions, swing on by the shop or give us a call.

My wife and I had a great time on our guided fly fishing tour with Tom at Werkman Outfitters. Tom was super nice and very patient with my wife while teaching her fly casting and fishing techniques. If I return to Michigan again for fly fishing I will definitely book another guide with Tom. Absolutely 5 stars.
