Grand River Fishing Reports

Adding In The Dredge

August 8, 2026

The Grand River and it's tribs continue to be low and clear, which makes them ideal for wet-wading. Daytime fishing now requires stealth, slowing down and and being aware of what's happening, in and on the river at all times. These fish spook easily, so go slow and pick apart the water around weedlines, timber and rock. Don't over look mid-river structure and continue to use poppers and terrestrials.

The shallow water bite has been really good in the evening along the faster seamlines. Use smaller streamer patterns in white ,with some chartreuse mixed in, like Maddin's Flash Monkey or a Double Bunny with smaller lead eyes.

Daytime also has us targeting and really working, the deeper holes and runs using larger swimflies and crayfish patterns. Success has come on Yard Sales, Leggy Bois, Swinging D's a, Mardi-Craws and Low Water Cray variants. If you're going dredge the deeper holes and runs, with crayfish patters, you'll need to use a heaver multi-density line like a Float / Hover / S3 or Float / Hover / S5 to get it down, into the zone.

That's the latest from frontlines.

My wife and I had a great time on our guided fly fishing tour with Tom at Werkman Outfitters. Tom was super nice and very patient with my wife while teaching her fly casting and fishing techniques. If I return to Michigan again for fly fishing I will definitely book another guide with Tom. Absolutely 5 stars.
