Warmer Than Normal

It seems like the pattern continues with warmer than normal temps and below average precipitation.  This has caused somewhat of a mixed bag for the fall steelhead run, with smaller juveniles showing up and not much in the way the adults. The main reason, the rivers are colder than Lake Michigan, so there’s really no reason for the steelhead to come in.

With all that said, just over the past few days, we are seeing more of the adults showing up.  This trend should continue as the temps drop in the coming months.

With the warmer than normal temps, we have been targeting smallmouth and finding success on swim-flies and crayfish patterns.  Just because the water temps are in the low 40’s, doesn’t mean these fish are lethargic, they cork over rod and pull just as hard as they would in warmer temps.
